Software Winamp 5.0 free

Winamp 5.0 was released today after a few weeks of beta testing. This new milestone in Winamp history makes a great impression and combines the best features of both Winamp 2 and Winamp 3, including full 2.x and 3.x skin support.

Winamp 5 is built on Winamp 2 and thus most 2.x plugins should be compatible. Winamp 2.9x skins are fully supported and referred to as classic skins. You will not notice any significant difference to winamp 2.9x when running Winamp 5 using a classic skin, except for an improved media library. The big downside of Winamp 3 was the huge amount of system resources that it required, which cannot be said for Winamp 5 in classic mode, by simply using a classic skin. Free-form skins as from Winamp 3 are supported just as well and are referred to as modern skins. Using modern skins does require more system resources however, but should run smoothly on fast computers. The default modern skin is very refreshing, easy to use and comes in 45 color themes.

For the first time Winamp is also available in a pro version for 14,95 USD, which can rip audio CDs with not only WAV- and AAC-encoding like the free version, but also with MP3-encoding. The pro version can furthermore burn CDs with unlimited speed, whereas the free version of Winamp 5 can only burn at 2x speed.

Further new features include playback of AAC and VP6 in NSV (Nullsoft Video) files/streams, global hotkey support, huge AVS updates and included milkdrop VIS plug-in, rating system for titles in media library and much more.
